Pin Making

Project 1:

Growing up in Minnesota, I was raised fishing and enjoying the shores of the mississippi river and lake superior spending countless days on each. With this project having the overarching theme of nostolgia, I wanted to make a series of rings that reflected each of those major parts of my life. The first ring is a hollowform ring that has a cutout of lake superior on the top. I chose a hollowform as it is a much larger ring than a traditional band, something to reflect the grand scale of the lake. I also wanted to include weathered bits, filled with patina to reflect the age of the lake and embrace the theme of nostalgia and the past. The second ring i make is a simple band with an outline of the mississippi river going around. The idea was to make it continuous, just like the flow of the river. Also including the weathered bits to show the age.
